Chromatography in petroleum industry

Course description

Chromatography is an important analytical tool in virtually every aspect of life, ‎such as forensic, environmental, and petroleum industry. Chromatography is one of ‎the major techniques used in modern analytical labs it is used to separate ‎complex mixtures of different molecules based on their physical or chemical ‎properties. It is an excellent tool to analyze gas and liquid samples containing ‎hundreds or even hundreds of thousands of different molecules. The technique ‎allows the analyst to identify both the types of molecular species and ‎their concentrations. This course covers all ‎the practical fundamental theory of ‎Gas Chromatography systems and its related techniques from sample introduction ‎through to data analysis. Finally, the participants will gain in-depth knowledge of the instrument components, along with ‎their principles of operation.‎

Learning objectives

At the end of the course, participants will:

  • ‎Have an overview of chromatographic techniques
  • ‎Understand the system gas supply and handling
  • ‎Have a general idea on gas chromatography system
  • ‎Assess the impact Mobile Phase (Carrier Gas)‎
  • ‎To evaluate chromatographic columns
  • ‎To be acquainted with the deference between detectors types
  • ‎Molecular-level‎ analyses using Multidimensional Gas Chromatography

Who should attend

  1. Researchers and academic staff Chemists
  2. Chemical Engineers
  3. Petroleum Engineers
  4. Technicians and anyone involved in the oil-related analysis

Outcomes

The course will cover the most important aspects of chromatography as ‎an analytical technique, such as: ‎

  • ‎Types of Chromatographic techniques
  • ‎Gas Chromatography Gas supply and handling
